Rosa Parks mini Biography

Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was born in Alabama on 4th February 1913. She was an African American activist. In 1955, there was bus segregation in the USA – the buses had separate parts for black and white people. One day, Rosa was on a bus and a white man wanted to sit down, but there weren’t seats in the white part. He wanted Rosa’s place. Because she said ‘no’ to the white man, she went to prison. This was a very important symbol in the fight for civil rights in the United States. After that, Rosa worked with Martin Luther King and other leaders of the Civil Rights Movement

and together they fought for equal rights for black people. Rosa said: “People think I said ‘no’ to the bus driver because I was tired after a hard day at work. I was not tired physically, I was not old, I was only forty-two. I was tired of living like that, that’s all.”

Amy Winehouse mini Biography

Amy Jade Winehouse was only 27 years old when she died. She had an intense life and a very successful career as a singer and a songwriter. She won her first guitar when she was 13 and, one year later, she wrote her first song. Before the release of her second album, Back to Black, she recorded a CD and played it in her father’s taxi. She wanted to see how people reacted to the songs. She won six Grammy Awards and entered the Guinness World Records for the Most Grammy Awards Won by a British Female Act. Amy Winehouse had a very turbulent life and people usually remember her as a problematic person. Few people know that she donated a lot of money to many different charities all over the world. After Winehouse died, in July 2011, her family established the Amy Winehouse Foundation to help young people in risky situations.

Frida Kahlo mini Biography

Frida Kahlo de Rivera was a Mexican painter. She was born in 1907 and, when she was six years old, she contracted polio. The polio affected her left leg. In 1925, she suffered a serious accident – she was on a bus in Mexico City when it crashed. As a result, she broke many bones and had thirty-five operations. She was immobilised for months in a hospital bed. She abandoned the study of medicine and started to paint regularly. She painted many self-portraits. She said that she painted herself because she was often alone and knew herself very well. She spent the rest of her life in pain, but she was a very active woman, she painted more than 140 paintings before she died, at the age of 47.
